Prepare your child with Little Journey

For many children, visiting hospital means entering an unfamiliar place filled with unknown people and strange equipment. A lack of knowledge and understanding can create anxiety.

Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and The Archie Foundation have teamed up with ‘Little Journey’ to provide tools to help prepare children for their hospital visit from the comfort of their own home.

The free ‘Little Journey app’ your child prepare for procedures such as general anaesthetics, blood tests or MRI scans. When children understand what will happen, we hope they will have lower levels of anxiety and will be able to cope better.

Your child can take an interactive virtual tour of the children’s hospital, before their hospital visit. Age-appropriate animated characters will show them the rooms they will visit, who they will meet and what will happen, so they will understand what to expect on the day.

‘Bite-sized’ information articles for caregivers will help to answer other queries about the hospital visit.

There are fun distraction games and relaxation activities to help your child stay calm. Older children can choose which activities they would like to try in ‘MyZone’.
