Plastic Surgery

Overview

Plastic surgeons work closely with other doctors, nurses, occupational therapists and clinical psychologists to help manage a wide range of conditions and injuries. We have a dedicated plastic surgery secretary (Lynne Garrett) who is the main point of contact for patients. You can contact her on 01224 552698.

Outpatient Clinics

There are a number of different clinics held at RACH:

Hand Clinic – this is held on Monday mornings and here we see babies, children and young people with congenital hand difference, acquired conditions affecting the hand or those who have had an injury such as a hand fracture.

Dressing Clinic – this is held on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons and here we manage lots of different conditions requiring dressings such as burns, wounds and surgical sites after operations.

Burns, Scars and General Plastic Surgery Clinic – this clinic is on Thursday afternoons and here we see babies, children and young people with a wide range of conditions affecting the skin and soft tissues all over the body.

Orthoplastic Clinic – is held on a Thursday afternoon,  every 6 weeks. Here the plastic surgery and orthopaedic surgery teams see patients together who have conditions affecting upper and/or lower limbs.

Vascular Anomalies Multidisciplinary Team Clinic – this clinic takes place on a Friday morning, every 8 weeks. Here the plastic surgery team works together with clinicians from paediatric surgery, orthopaedic surgery, paediatric medicine, dermatology and radiology to provide a combined approach to managing patients with vascular anomalies such as vascular birthmarks.

Inpatients

Most plastic surgery inpatients will be based in the Surgical Ward on Level 2 or the Day Case Unit on Level 1. Patients for elective surgery will have paperwork sent out describing where to go and whether or not it is necessary to fast before their procedure. Patients requiring emergency procedures with the plastic surgery team normally receive information about admission direct from the clinical team at the time of review.
