Diabetology

OVERVIEW

Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly.  Diabetes is caused by a lack of insulin production from the pancreas. Your pancreas makes insulin, a natural hormone that helps your body absorb glucose (or sugar) in your blood. Children and young people with Diabetes need some help to control their levels of insulin. Type 1 Diabetes is the most common type in children and young people and usually means that your body is not producing enough insulin to keep you healthy.
