The Archie Foundation has been making the difference for babies, children and families when they need it most for over four decades. The story began in 1984 when a group of “Friends of the Special Nursery” raised a phenomenal £900,000 to support the build of the 40-bed Neonatal Unit which opened in 1988. Archie was instrumental in the build of Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, which opened in 2004. Since then the charity has continued to grown, widening its reach and remit, and now provides key support and services in healthcare and bereavement for babies, children, families and the NHS staff who care for them, right across North Scotland.

NHS Grampian Charity was founded under the NHS (Scotland) Act 1978 and is the largest health charity in the North-east, and the fourth largest NHS charity fund in Scotland. The charity holds around 800 different funds covering wards, departments and specific medical conditions, and operates to strict criteria to ensure donations are only used to enhance the services that NHS Grampian provides, and not to replace statutory responsibilities. NHS Grampian Charity funds activities, projects and services across three broad themes – Patient Health & Wellbeing, Staff Wellbeing & Development, Research & Development.
